Gardein Beefless Ground Review

Gardein Beefless Ground Review

Where’s the beef?  Gardein Beefless Ground, that is.

Yesterday at work, we had our annual Chili-Cookoff event.  I participated once a couple of years ago, making my famous chili with TVP (textured veggie protein) which is all that was really available back then.  It was good!  I competed against some of the strongest meat based chili out there…and by the time the event was over…my Crock Pot of chili was no more.  Today, thank goodness, there are a lot more alternatives to simple TVP out there to make those comforting ground beef based dishes with.  Gardein, a company you will bee seeing many reviews on here, is a staple in my household.  The freezer is always full of their chick’n patties, tenders, strips, sliders, wings, fish filet, mini crab cakes, beefless burger patties, tips, meatballs, meatloaf, the list goes on and on!  Because I worked amount the smell of chili wafting through the air via the ventilation system, I was craving some myself.  Good thing that Kristie also mentioned it last night on the way home.  So we stopped into our friendly neighborhood Publix to grab the essentials of her chili; Gardein Beefless Ground, dark red kidney beans, onion, seasonings, and stewed chili tomatoes.

This stuff is freaking awesome!  I mean…it is awesome enough to fool your meat-eating friends (or yourself if you are reading this as a meat-eater).  Cook this shit up just like you would ground beef.  Dump it in a pan or skillet with a little oil and brown it up!  Just don’t overdo it.  Due to its lack of fat and moisture, it will stick and burn quickly.  Add whatever spices you normally would to it and go for it.  Simple, easy, idiot-proof!

We got in such a hurry to put this chili together, that I forgot to take a pic of this stuff cooking.  UGH!  However, I did manage to find a pic from another time that shows the beautiful texture and mouth-watering gorgeousness of this beef-less wonder:

Friend: What The Hell! Is that not real beef?
Me: NOPE!  It ain’t.
Friend: What the hell is it made from?
Me: Plants!
Friend: Get the F%&* outta here!  You gotta be joking?
Me: Nope! I am not joking.  Now leave me alone!  I got to finish cooking, you summabitch!
Friend: Seriously, what is it made from?
Me: Plants, mutthaf#@%er!
Friend: DUDE!
Me: Ok..man…soy protein, lil sugga, yeast stuff, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, DONE!
Friend:  I bet it taste like crap!
ME:  You’ll see!

He ate 5 bowls of the stuff!… (ROCKY).  I almost didn’t have enough to go ’round.

True Story!

This stuff is good for almost anything you use ground beef for; sloppy joes, tacos, stuffed peppers, chili, shepard pie (recipe and method by Kristie coming soon), spaghetti, baked ziti,  etc.

The chili turned out great!  Just look how beautiful:

I added some Follow Your Heart Cheddar, tamed jalapeno, and some Toffuti Sour Cream!  UMMM FREAKING HMMMM!

I think these are the best meatless crumbles on the market, better than Beyond Meat crumbles and Lightlife, and worlds away from Boca or TVP. Still it might be cool for you to do a shootout with blind taste tests for all the different meatless crumbles!

Great idea, Mike! I have served some things here at work, and Kristie has made her mini Shephards Pie(s) with it, which were a great hit at a party. She is going to make it again in a few weeks for a birthday party we are attending.
